Electrical Connection whilst ashore (New Policy)

After a season long trial, Pasco’s Boatyard has approved the use of MeterMaid™ Electrical consumption meters, when used in conjunction with the Electrical outlet posts to be found here within the Boatyard.

MeterMaid™ is a portable, in-line, and weather resistant electricity meter, crafted for diverse settings such as marinas, boatyards, caravan and motorhome sites. Its purpose is to accurately gauge individual electricity consumption. Each Meter Maid has a unique serial number etched into the body of the device.

It may be purchased from any of these local suppliers:

·       Marine Electricals, Units 4-6, Breakwater Road, Plymstock, Plymouth, PL9 7HJ

·       Force 4, Queen Annes Battery, Plymouth, PL4 0LP

·       Pirates Cave, 6 Kendon Business Park, Maritime Close, Medway City Estate, Rochester, Kent ME2 4JF.

Having run our season long trial, and found these devices to be stable and reliable, PBY has decided to accommodate the use of the Meter Maid device.

The device will plug into the electrical posts in the yard and will be accepted providing that the following procedure is observed. Remember electricity is not free and has become an expensive commodity in the last few years. It is our policy is to seek to cost recover where electricity is used rather than to drive profit from its use.

PBY Policy Electrical consumption (With MeterMaid)

1.      The Meter maid is the property of the customer and PBY takes no responsibility for its reliability or serviceability when in use in the yard.

2.      The unique serial number of the MeterMaid device must be registered by the owner with Pasco’s Boatyard and this number will be added to the customer account record held by PBY on its computer system.

3.      The reading shown on the MeterMaid device must be registered prior to plugging it in to the chosen electrical post in the yard. Both the customer and Pasco’s boatyard will jointly inspect the device and agree that the unit to measure will be Kw/hrs. PBY will take a photo of the reading shown on the device and this will also be added to the customer record as the “Connection Record” or CR

4.      The registration and meter reading will occur annually at the start of layup

5.      When the registration and reading is complete, you are free to plugged in.

6.      The measurement of electricity consumption will be the reading of the device on the day it is disconnected from the supply which will be known as the Disconnection Record or DR. minus the reading taken on the day it was plugged in e.g. (Disconnect Reading DR – Connect Reading CR)

·       As an example, if the readings were CR=27 and DR=113, the consumed electricity would equal 113-27 or 86 units or 86Kw/hrs.

·       The charges to be paid would then be the reading in Kw/hrs multiplied by the winter 24/25 published tariff rate of £1.14031

·       This tariff includes the per kw/h supplier charge the Government climate change Levi per Kwh and a percentage of the supplier standing charge pertaining to the yard power outlets. I addition there is a small administration charge for the overhead of collecting recording and preparing the electricity invoiced amount

·       Note PBY will only invoice whole units so will round up any part units to the next whole unit when either the CR or DR is taken.

7.      PBY reserves the right to increase this tariff charge should the electrical supply to the yard experience an increase in charges from the electricity supply company during the winter lay-up period.

8.       Customers are responsible for ensuring that their electrical power lead is in serviceable condition and that when plugged in to the MeterMaid outlet, customers ensure that the cable is routed safely from the electrical post to their vessel, so as not to cause a trip hazard or danger to other persons in the yard. Additionally, customers must ensure sufficient cable is provide for all states of tide if laying up in the pool.

9.       Customers must ensure that the electrical device that is running inside the vessel is safe to operate "closed up"/ undercover for whatever period that it will be left unattended.

10.   PBY staff will not disconnect any cable once plugged in (unless the vessel has to be moved) if the vessel is moved, PBY will inform the client that it has been moved. The client must instruct PBY to reconnect having assured himself/herself that it is safe to do so.

11.   PBY take no responsibility for any loss or injury sustained due to the miss use or malfunction of any electrical device connected to the PBY electrical posts.
